The Big Lunch in Hersham – 1 June [SEE THE Big Lunch Website]

This year for the first time ever, there will be a Big Lunch in Hersham, it will be on Vauxmead (Faulkners Rd) at 12.15 on the 1st June. The Big Lunch is a nationally promoted annual event for communities to come together across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours and promote friendship and fun.

It will take the form of a simple ‘do-it-yourself’ community picnic with some music and optional games for all ages to join in with or just spectate. The organisers suggest that people should bring a rug, sandwiches, drinks, games, – and any musical instruments they can play. Don’t forget your friends and neighbours – bring them along too – all are welcome. Please no barbecues.

HOW DO YOU FANCY A BIG LUNCH on Vauxmead on 1st June?

The committee that organised the Hersham Village Picnic for the last 3 years has made it clear that it would not be arranging another one this summer.  Whilst this is a shame – an alternative simpler community event option has been suggested – a Hersham ‘Big lunch!’

As it says on the Big Lunch Website, this is day which is nationally set each year for communities to come together across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.

Over 20 people signed the pledge to say that (unless it is raining) they would come and support it.  You can access the Hersham Big Lunch pledge here http://www.pledgebank.com/HershamBigLunch so the organisers have confirmed it will be going ahead!

People often say that Vauxmead is an underused potential community space in Hersham – the Big Lunch provides an opportunity to make the most of it!  So please come along!
